Tunisia: ARTICLE 19 condemns attack on Tunisian parliament compound - Civic Space

Following the attack in the compound of Tunisian Parliament and the adjacent Bardo museum in Tunis, ARTICLE 19 strongly condemns this act of violence. According to official sources, at least 19 people are dead, including 17 foreigners and 2 nationals, and 22 people have been injured.

“ARTICLE 19 strongly condemns this attack against the Tunisian Parliament and expresses its solidarity to the people of Tunisia and its democratically elected representatives”, stated Saloua Ghazouani, ARTICLE 19 Tunisia director.

“This cowardly and deplorable attack is an attempt to derail Tunisia’s democratic transition, especially after the successful parliamentary elections held in 2014” added Ghazouani.

“The fact that the attack takes place in the premises of the Tunisian parliament and in one of its leading museums provides a clear political and economic dimension to this attack.

“ARTICLE 19 wishes to express its solidarity and condolences to the relatives of the victims” stated Ghazouani.
