The Passing of Sue Lloyd-Roberts - Civic Space

ARTICLE 19 wishes to extend its deep sympathy to the family and friends of Sue Lloyd-Roberts, who passed away on Tuesday. Sue was a former ARTICLE 19 board member, a pioneering broadcast journalist and a long-time human rights campaigner.

 Sue’s journalism and campaign work was internationally renowned, and tributes have been made from across the world. Aung San Suu Kyi praised her “great courage,” while the BBC’s chief international correspondent, Lyse Doucet, described her as “a trailblazer – taking risks, showing courage, telling the stories few others could get.”

Sue was recognised for her work on human rights and received an MBE and CBE for her humanitarian journalism. She also received the European Women of Achievement Award and won an Emmy for her reporting from North Korea.

“Sue was an inspiration to ARTICLE 19 and the ideals to which we aspirePrincipled, indefatigable, and brave, she was an inspiration, and will be greatly missed”, said Catherine Smadja, former chairperson and current Trustee of ARTICLE 19.
