Senegal: UPR submission on freedom of expression issues

ARTICLE 19 has made a UPR Submission on the situation of freedom of expression in Senegal for the 31st SessionĀ of the Working Group in November 2018.

The submission raises the following freedom of expression priorities for Senegal:

  • Constitutional guarantees for fundamental rights
  • Restrictions on free expression in the Criminal Code
  • Media freedom
  • Freedom of peaceful assembly
  • Right to information
  • National institutions protecting and promoting human rights.

ARTICLE 19 makes recommendations to Senegal to make reforms to its Criminal Code; repeal laws and legal provisions which undermine international standards.
