Joint letter to the EU’s Commission: a call to include interoperability provisions in the Digital Services Act - Digital

In June 2020, ARTICLE 19, along with 10 other civil society organisations, signed a joint letter to the European Commission Executive Vice-President, Margrethe Vestager, calling on EU Commission to include, in its proposal for a EU Digital Services Act (DSA), ex ante interoperability requirements.

We believe that including interoperability requirements in the DSA would ensure greater efficiency, choice and fairness for business users and citizens. Interoperability requirements as a policy tool will also increase competition by decreasing the gatekeeping power of incumbents.

ARTICLE 19 has also made 10 key recommendations for the DSA , which we call the EU Commission to implement in its proposal soon to come. ARTICLE 19 previously signed a joint letter addressed to the Members of the Telecommunications Council, European Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager and Commissioner Thierry Breton prior to the meeting of the Telecommunications Council on 5 June 2020 asking the addressees to protect fundamental rights and freedoms in the forthcoming DSA.
