ARTICLE 19 has endorsed a statement by Columbia Global Freedom of Expression which calls for Bahrain to unconditionally drop all charges brought against the human rights defender and inter-faith activist, Sheikh Maytham Al Salman, and to cease their harassment of him.
This legal document analyses the legitimacy of the charges laid by the authorities of Bahrain against Al Salman for expressing an opinion about the trial and imprisonment of a public figure and for criticising the government of Bahrain. ARTICLE 19 condemns the repeated use of such or similar charges brought against human rights defenders and political opponents, including Sheikh Maytham Al Salman, for exercising their rights to freedom of expression.
