World Bank: Downgrading of transparency programme is a cause for concern

ARTICLE 19 expresses concern following the World Bank’s recent announcement that it will be closing down two critical departments that were global champions for right to information, good governance, transparency, and accountability. The Governance & Inclusive Institutions and the Public Integrity & Openness departments were natural partners with civil society.

ARTICLE 19 joined others in writing to President Jim Yong Kim to raise these concerns regarding the downgrading of the World Bank’s capacity to pursue a global right to information agenda at a time when the World Bank’s role in this area is needed more than ever before.
