At present, the Europe programme works with seventeen partners across Europe: RUSSIA The Centre for Journalism in Extreme Situations The Centre for Journalism in Extreme Situations works to protect journalists’ rights and freedoms and assist the introduction of international norms related to the activity of the media in Russian legislation and legal practice. It carries out monitoring of violations of journalists’ rights in Russia and the CIS. It also conducts training seminars for journalists. http://www.cjes.ru/index-e.php UKRAINE EcoPravo Kiev EcoPravo is an environmental law non-governmental organisation based in Kiev. Its areas of work include legal advice to NGOs, authorities and to the wider public; legal support to newly-built NGOs and civil society groups; environmental legal education; trainings for NGO and public officials on access to information and participation in environmental decision-making. www.ecopravo.kiev.ua/epk/index_en.shtm The Kharkiv Group for Human Rights Protection (KHPG) KHPG (formally “Memorial”) established in 1992 in Ukraine with a mission to defend victims of human rights violations perpetrated by law-enforcement officials. The organisation has worked on activities such as torture, arbitrary detention and freedom of expression, by raising the general awareness of human rights in Ukraine and campaigning for the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights. http://www.khpg.org/en/ "Environment-People-Law" (EPL) (formerly Ecopravo-Lviv) - Lviv EPL is a non-governmental international organization based in Lviv, Ukraine. It was created in 1994 in order to provide assistance to individuals and institutions in the protection of environmental rights (including the right to environmental information), and to promote the development of the environment protection, environmental education, science and culture. http://www.epl.org.ua/ab_in_brief.htm Centre for Sustainable Development “Rosa Vetrov” – Donetsk The centre was established on the basis of the DFID three-year (2001-2003) project Rosa Vetrov (Wind Rose). The organisation continued operating following the end of the project. Its programme of work focuses on three target groups (public, local authorities, business) and its activities include: providing information to the public on environmental issues; running campaigns aiming at raising awareness on environmental issues; and developing and delivering training courses. akiv_lev@mail.ru BELARUS The Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) BAJ works to promote freedom of expression and professional standards of journalism in Belarus. It counts among its members 160 non-State and State-owned media outlets and has regional offices in all six Belarusian oblasts. http://baj.ru/indexe.htm MOLDOVA The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) IJC works to facilitate the development of the Moldovan media by promoting professionalism among journalists and campaigning for greater freedom of expression in Moldova. Its activities have included journalism training (short-term seminars and workshops), legal support to journalists, media monitoring and publication of periodicals and journalism manuals. http://www.ijc.md/eng/ SOUTH CAUCASUS Freedom of Information Centre The Freedom of Information Centre of Armenia is a non-governmental organisation established in 2001 which works to protect the public's right to information, promote the implementation of Freedom of Information legislation and advance open and transparent governance in Armenia. http://www.hetq.am/ Journalists for Human Rights Journalists for Human Rights is a non-governmental organisation (established on 7 June 1998) aimed at safeguarding human rights, promoting democratic governance and fostering cooperation between local human rights groups in South Ossetia. Email contact: dianaipt@yahoo.com The Liberty Institute The Liberty Institute, established in Georgia in 1996, is a non-profit, non-partisan, liberal public policy advocacy foundation in Georgia, which strives to establish values of civil liberties, active citizenship and public accountability through civic campaigns, debates, surveys and educational activities. http://www.liberty.ge/ The Mass Media Defence Center (MMDC) MMDC was established in 1995 with the central goal of supporting the development of an independent and responsible media in Russia. The MMDC conducts a wide range of activities including monitoring and advocating freedom of expression, providing legal support and representation to members of the public and the media to enable them to exercise their right to free expression; supporting legislative reform; educating people on their right to freedom of expression and training of key professional groups such as journalists, lawyers and judges. http://www.mmdc.narod.ru/ Yeni Nesil Union of Journalists Yeni Nesil (“new generation”) Union of Journalists, founded in 1994, promotes freedom of expression and information, and fosters legal media reforms in Azerbaijan. Email contact: bakupressclub@azdata.net Yerevan Press Club Yerevan Press Club founded in 1995 is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that unites media professionals and fosters development of independent and professional media in Armenia. http://www.ypc.am/ CENTRAL ASIA Adil Soz Adil Soz (Free Word) provides legal advice on Freedom of Expression issues and works on the development of the media in Kazakhstan. www.adilsoz.kz NANSMIT NANSMIT, the National Association of Independent Media of Tajikistan, registered in 1999.
