Choosing Our Future: Open and Participatory Sustainable Development Governance

As part of the UN Summit on Sustainable Development, ARTICLE 19 is co-organising an one day event on 19 June in Rio de Janeiro on sustainable development governance. A key focus of the event will on advancing ideas on how to promote and build legal frameworks at the national, regional and international levels to implement the rights of access to information, public participation and access to justice, including a new global convention.

Achim Steiner, the Executive Director of the UN Environmental Program (UNEP), will be the featured speaker. The panels will also feature speakers and participants from dozens of countries around the world.

The event will be held at Fundacao Getulio Vargas.

The event is sponsored by the Ford Foundation and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The other partner organisations include The Access Initiative,  United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Institute for Training and Research, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, European Environmental Agency, European Environmental Bureau and Stakeholder Forum.
