The ARTICLE 19 Freedom of Expression Virtual Handbook is an accessible but high-quality legal guide to international and best comparative standards on the right to freedom of expression.

The Handbook consists of two parts:

• A searchable database containing summaries of hundreds of freedom of expression decisions from international courts and dispute settlement mechanisms, as well as selected jurisprudence from national courts which supports a progressive interpretation of the right. The database further contains ARTICLE 19’s standard-setting publications, for example in the areas of national security, defamation, access to information and broadcasting, and a series of regional and thematic papers.
  
• A virtual edition of the ARTICLE 19 Freedom of Expression Manual, second edition. This document is currently under preparation; in the meantime, we recommend the following sources:

1) The Central Asian Pocketbook on Freedom of Expression, which presents a concise but comprehensive overview of international law and standards on freedom of expression;

2) The ARTICLE 19 Freedom of Expression Handbook (1993) which provides an introduction to international and best comparative standards on the right to freedom of expression.
