Publications ARTICLE 19 works on a number of key issues relating to freedom of expression and access to information: Freedom of expression and access to information are both serious casulties in all conflicts. Censorship is the suppression of free expression and can take many forms. Defamation is also known as libel, slander or vilification. Discrimination suppresses freedom of expression and a diversity of voices and opinions. Access to information is a key basis for freedom and democracy. Hate speech is intended to degrade, intimidate, and incite violence or prejudicial action. The media and journalists are often the most censored groups. Security and terrorism agendas have created ways to limit alternative expression. |
