Bloggers are being some threatened and even murdered because their ideas, their opinion, their blogs updates. The most famous case of harassment was Falha de S.Paulo (Read >) but there are a lot of them. In 2011, some evidences suggest one death and death threatens related to blogs content. The cases were:

Although all these cases must be investigated, we notice that half of the violations were very serious, related with murder, murder attempt or death threatens. The reasons are very similar: corruption whistleblow or authorities criticism that leads defamation lawsuits or other serious threatens.

ARTICLE 19 is also concerned about several others freedom of expression online issues:

  • Court decisions unbalanced with freedom of expression right and leads censorship
  • Restrictive bills proposals
  • Government requests for content removal
  • Some institutional behaviour codes that inhibits freedom of expression on social media.
