Aung San Suu Kyi led her party to victory in the 1990 general elections, only to see the results nullified and the military refusing to handover power.

Since then Aung San Suu Kyi has spent most of the past two decades in detention.

Despite almost universal support for her plight for freedom, some global interests have protected the terrible military regime.
