Internships

Intern required for the Europe Programme

ARTICLE 19 is urgently looking for an intern to join its Europe Programme in London, United Kingdom. The candidate should have a strong interest in human rights issues (ideally including freedom of expression) in the Eurasia region. Russian language ability would be a distinct advantage. Preference will be given to those able to work full-time for at least 3 months (although interns with a specific profile would be considered for part-time and shorter periods).

The internship is an opportunity to gain experience in working for an international non-governmental organisation, in particular on programme implementation. The selected candidate will work as a fully integrated member of the Europe team and be under the direct supervision of the Europe Programme Officer. The intern will gain exposure to freedom of expression issues in key countries in the CIS, and will have responsibility for implementing specific project activities in co-operation with ARTICLE 19 staff and partner organisations based in the region.

Responsibilities will include:

- Researching materials to be used for ARTICLE 19 publications/statements on the CIS
 - Drafting statements and letters
 - Providing assistance in fundraising
- Providing general administrative support
- Providing assistance in management of project finances as required

TO APPLY: please send a CV, a writing sample and a covering letter outlining your motivation and indicating your availability, to Anoush Begoyan: anoushb@article19.org

Please note that the internship is unpaid, although interns will receive a small allowance for lunch and local travel.

Rolling applications
ARTICLE 19 welcomes applications for internships throughout the year. Interns make an important contribution to our work and gain a great deal of experience and knowledge. Although interns are expected to contribute about 20% of their time to administrative tasks, the bulk of their work is substantive in nature, giving them insight into the workings of an international human rights organisation and in-depth knowledge of issues relating to freedom of expression.

Internships are available in the Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East & North Africa and Law programmes. Occasional opportunities arise for internships in communications and fundraising. Individuals looking to gain experience in administration are also welcome to apply.

Internships are unpaid apart from lunch expenses and travel within London.

If you would like to apply for an internship with ARTICLE 19, please submit your covering letter, CV, the internship application form and for Law Programme applications, a 500 word written sample of your work. Please state which programme/s you are interested in interning with.

Applications should be submitted by email to info@article19.org or by post to The Internship Co-ordinator, ARTICLE 19, 6-8 Amwell Street, London EC1R 1UQ, United Kingdom.

As places are limited - especially over the summer period - it is advisable to apply at least three months in advance of when you hope to start your placement.
